I’ll be the first to admit that I have always been a major slacker in the area of skin care. I wash my face when I shower, and that’s about it. I’ve gone through a few phases where I’ll try new products and make promises that I will do better, but they always fall by the way side. I’m currently in one of those phases now (AND I’M GOING TO MAKE IT STICK THIS TIME) so I was excited when my Influenster JAdoreVoxBox included an Ionic Clay Mask from Boots Botanics. I have combination skin, mostly oily, probably from lack of treating my skin well, and the Shine Away Mask is made for combination to oily skin. YAY!

So what I wasn’t excited about was that first squeeze out of the tube. The liquid comes out pretty thick and not the most pleasant in colors. I was worried that the mask would be super thick, which would make it difficult to rinse off and possibly stop up my plumbing. There’s another clay mask out there that does have a tendency to cause plumbing problems because of how thick it is, so it’s recommended that you don’t rinse it off into the sink but wipe it off and throw it in the trash. Boots didn’t mention this in the instructions, but I was afraid that this was going to be another one like that.

To my surprise, Shine Away went on smooth and not too thick. It dries pretty quickly, so I’m not stuck for 10 minutes afraid to move because I’ll smear it all over the place. And the final and biggest win for the product is that when the 10 minutes are up, the mask wipes away incredibly easy with a wash cloth. There was no scrubbing to the point of rubbing my face red to getting the final bits off. And also, I was able to rinse out my wash cloth without it stopping up my sink. All the fears that I had before trying the product were no longer fears afterward. And the best part of all, my skin was very soft the next day!

A few tips that helped me maximize my rejuvenating experience:

• Make sure you apply the mask to recently cleaned skin.
• Sip on a refreshing drink during the 10 minutes your waiting for your mask to work it’s magic. Use a straw!
• Rinse with warm water – not hot, not cold! Water that is too hot can remove too many oils from your skin, making it dry.
• Apply your favorite toner after removing mask.
• Follow up with a moisturizer suitable for your skin type.
